Staffordsville’s favorite son will sing the national anthem on Sunday, February 12
at the start of the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs gridiron classic.
Stapleton’s music credentials are continuously growing, having now earned eight
Grammys, 15 CMA honors, and 10 citations from the Academy of Country Music.
The Super Bowl will be played in Arizona at the State Farm Stadium and will be
broadcast on FOX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson County officials have proclaimed April 9-14 \u201cLoretta Lynn Week\u201d.  The legendary Coal Miner\u2019s Daughter will celebrate her 90th<\/sup> birthday on Thursday, April 14.
Granddaughter Tayla Lynn says there will be a gathering in Nashville on that day, and other groups in other localities will honor Loretta\u2019s phenomenal accomplishments in the field of country music.
Lynn grew up in the famous Butcher Holler section of the ex-coal town of Van Lear, just southeast of Paintsville.
In Van Lear fans have been working to provide a new honor in the form of a concrete monument to her career not far from her famous homeplace.  At its unveiling, tourism officials throughout the region, gathered for the dedication ceremonies. Fans, local leaders. and some of Loretta Lynn\u2019s family attended. They carried word that Loretta Lynn was gratified and pleased with the event.
At Saturday\u2019s April 9 event, Paintsville Tourism Director Jeremiah Parsons observed that Loretta Lynn is the most \u201cawarded lady in Country Music\u201d, and \u201cour wonderful, hometown girl\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paintsville\u2019s Autumn Festival Shaping Up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Bill M. Runyon has reported on September 22 that, so far, 115 vendors have committed to providing products, services, or food items for the effort to provide a replacement event for the Kentucky Apple Festival during the first full weekend of October.

It was announced Aug. 27 on the Kentucky Apple Festival Facebook that \u201cAfter consulting with local health officials and emergency management, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Kentucky Apple Festival until 2022. There were a number of factors involved in this situation that left us with no other option.\u201d
Now, the replacement festival is still being built, with the dates set as Thurs. Sept. 30 thru Saturday, Oct. 2.
\u201c26 food vendors plan to set up downtown, and possibly more,\u201d Runyon said in an interview with countrymusichighway.com.
A carnival will be brought in during the three-day event.
Arts and crafts vendors are responding to this opportunity, and are incentivized by low setup fees and the city is not asking for a cut of the proceeds from any of these vendors.
\u201cThe Ohio Valley Professional Health Services will be located on Main St. to provide vaccines for COVID, all three varieties, along with tests for the virus, and antibody tests,\u201d Runnyon reports. \u201cThese services will be free.\u201d
A key aspect of the Apple Festival will be absent, a parade and car show.
Music will be plentiful, at the new Alley On Main Restaurant. Dubbed the Alley Fest, rising country star Tyler Booth is set to perform along with The Kentucky Headhunters, Little Texas, Nick Shoulders and the Okay Crawdad, 49 Winchester and several more.
Tickets are being sold for these live music performances.
Music fans are referred to the Alley on Main for complete information about the musical aspect of the weekend\u2019s event.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Come To Van Lear In Early August!!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Van Lear Days, also known as the Van Lear Town Celebration always happens during the first full weekend of August.
It offers a detailed look at Loretta Lynn\u2019s homeplace and provides a clear perspective on the town\u2019s historical background and position as a model coal town once operated by Colsolidated Coal Co.
Events begin Aug. 5 and continue through Aug. 8.
A Saturday parade at 2:30, live music, cornhole tournament, tours of the famous Coal Miners\u2019 Museum and family friendly events will highlight the weekend.

US 23 YARD SALE\u2026IT IS A GO THIS YEAR!<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

US 23 Yard Sale on Memorial Weekend??Last year, it was cancelled.
This year, we feel certain it will be back!
The event is a loose confederation of participants in the counties along US 23, so locating a central authority to absolutely confirm this year\u2019s Yard Sale is elusive.
For certain, there will be numerous yard sales in our region for Memorial Day weekend. The best we can forecast is, the likelihood of an event along US 23 is certain this year. Only time will tell in 2021 as to how similar it will be in comparison to the last year it was held in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paintsville hosts summer evening concerts downtown<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Paintsville Tourism has announced their Summer Concert Series for 2021. Performances are scheduled montly in June, July, and August at the new pavilion beside Paint Creek downtown.
Performers include Sweet Run (June), Sons of FM (July), and Long Shot (August).
These live shows are on the first weekend of each month, June 4, July 3, and August 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple Day is on for 2021 in Paintsville<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although last year (2020) wasn’t feasible, for 2021 Paintsville’s 58th Kentucky Apple Festival plans to return full force.
Always scheduled in the first full weekend of October, the Apple Festival will culminate on Friday, October 1 and Saturday, October 2.
This sizable group of special events has been drawing visitors from most states in the U. S. and offers plenty of musical entertainment, school activities and competitions, food booths, a large arts and crafts offering, and a Saturday afternoon parade.
As the year goes on, the Kentucky Apple Festival Board will be announcing specifics on musical entertainment and other key events planned for this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stapleton Racks Up Four ACM Nominations,
Wins For Album of the Year “Starting Over” <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Chris Stapleton was honored with four ACM nominations for 2021, and fans viewed the televised results on Sunday, April 16.
He picked up top honors for Album of the Year with \u201cStarting Over\u201d, and performed \u201cMaggie\u2019s Song\u201d about the loss of the Stapleton family\u2019s dog with assistance from Miranda Lambert.  Lambert is a supporter of animal adoption and care, and was happy to fill in for Morgane Stapleton who was unable to attend the awards show.
He was also nominated  for Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year (\u201cStarting Over\u201d),
Chris Stapleton and Maren Morris had the most nominations this year, with four each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music fans can look forward to a Saturday evening performance of live music at Paintsville’s newest pavilion.The site is brand new and just behind City Hall on Water Street.Bill Dotson will take the stage at 7 p.m. and will play until 10 p.m.Paintsville Tourism Director Josh Johnson says the tourism group is thrilled to be using their newest stage facility and invites everyone to stop by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LORETTA LYNN ISSUES NEW ALBUM<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Loretta Lynn has always loved her chosen life\u2019s work, and a new album at age 88 is solid proof.
Adversity struck two years ago after a stroke and broken hip suffered in a fall at home might have spelled the end for most people.
Lynn has instead released her latest album, borrowing the title form her 1966 hit \u201cYou Ain\u2019t Woman Enough (to take my man).
Officially, the album is available March 19, and the title is \u201cStill Woman Enough\u201d. 
A performance of the title song features Loretta and her helper, Tanya Tucker.
At the top tourist attraction in Van Lear, Johnson County, plans are to erect a stone monument on the site of her homeplace later in 2021.
The new album is just another accomplishment in a stellar, award-winning career in country music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paintsville Restarts Front Porch Pickin\u2019
Thursday, March 4 with Precautions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The immensely popular Thursday night live music shows are coming back to the Country Music Highway Museum outside of Paintsville on March 4.
Josh Johnson, tourism director for Paintsville Tourism says special provisions will be in place to protect attendees from COVID concerns, and there will be no concessions for the time being.
Social distancing rules likely will reduce the number of persons admitted.
Officials remain optimistic about the return of this popular event, known as Front Porch Picking<\/p>\n\n\n\n
